Face Protection

Face protection prevents exposure of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and mouth to infectious or hazardous materials. Face protection typically includes a nose-and-mouth mask (e.g. surgical mask) and goggles, which should be used whenever exposure to splashes or sprays is likely to occur, including dental procedures, nebulization, laundry, and wound lavage. To fit goggles use both hands to pull the strap over the head and into a comfortable position so that the protector fits securely. Store goggles in a clean dry area. Wash with mild soap or detergent and warm water after each use and store away from other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Rinse clean, and then remove excess water with a soft tissue or cloth. Do not use ammonia, alkaline cleaners, solvents or abrasive cleaners. Discard goggles when crazing (network of fine cracks on the surface of a material), pitting or scratches reduce vision.

To put on a mask:

  • Place over nose, mouth and chin
  • Fit flexible nose piece over nose bridge
  • Secure on head with ties or elastic
